Polish embassy concerned over Union of Poles detentions
The Polish Embassy in Minsk has expressed concerns over the detention of nearly 30 activists from the unofficial Union of Poles in Belarus. "The embassy is alarmed by the developments over the unofficial Union of Poles in Belarus and the escalation of the conflict that was started by Yuzef Luchnik, the chairman of the Union of Poles recognized by the authorities. Today, the existing agreements about the status quo of this organizations remain under question", a Polish diplomat told the Belapan news agency.
The Polish embassy is set to inform the Polish foreign ministry about the mass detention of POlish minority activists.
Some 30 members of the unofficial Union of Poles of Belarus were detained on January 21 on their way to the town of Ivyanets. They were heading there to support Tersa Sobal, the head of the local Polish House.
