Judge of the Supreme Court Alyaksandr Fedartsou has made such sentence on November 30.  According to it, Kanavalau is guilty of the blasts, and Kavalyou - of cooperation and failure to report.

Lyubou Kavalyova has stated that she wants the judge to read out the full text of the sentence, on the stairs of the House of Justice.

In her opinion, the people will be able to see whether there are proofs of the defendants' guilt after pronouncement of the full text of the sentence.

Many journalists have gathered to hear the sentence, there are about three dozens cameras. Mobile network has started to be blocked in the area of the court.

The final trial will start at 11 a.m. today in the House of Justice in Minsk. Natives of Vitsebsk Dzmitry Kanavalau and Uladzislau Kavalyou are accused of organization of the blast in Minsk metro on April 11, the blast on the Independence Day-2008 in Minsk, and a series of blasts in Vitsebsk. The lawyers of defense insist that their clients' guilt has not been proven.

November 15

Kavalyou and Kanavalau’s sentences will be pronounced on November 30.

Dzmitry Kanavalau has refused to make the last plea.

Uladzislau Kavalyou recalled a few hooligan actions committed in Vitsebsk at the beginning of the 2000s in his last plea. He noted that they had not used blasting assemblies for them –they used pop-guns. Kavalyou noted that he had nothing to do with the explosions in Vitsebsk in 2005 and in Minsk in 2008 and 2011. He also refuted the fact that Kanavalau could be involved in the explosions.

Kavalyou has informed that his evidence was given under pressure. He read out his last plea.

Kavalyou’s lawyer Stanislau Abrazei has drawn attention to the elements of cutting in the metro videos again. He has also pointed at the fact that the man with a bag displayed in the video is not of Kanavalau’s height and bodily constitution.

Dzmitry Kanavalau’s lawyer, Dzmitry Lepretar, has asked the court to return his client non-guilty of all the episodes that occurred before 2008 in Vitsebsk. He thinks that Kanavalau’s guilt has not been proved.

Mr.Tyshkevich, a victim, has expressed a desire to make a speech. Referring to the FSS expertise that says that everyone had to receive barotraumas within the range of 35 metres, he has drawn attention to the fact that executor of the terrorist act had not had any injuries or traces of the explosion. The witness is surprised about it and about the refusal to watch the video from the metro and to interrogate the metro driver.

Tyshekevcih is also interested how the special services found the terrorists’ flat. He says that there are a lot of obscure facts in the case and that he is not sure that the real culprits will be punished. According to him, the evidence presented by the Office of the Public Prosecutor has not convinced him.

The judge has asked the girl who has applauded the victim who expressed his doubt that the real culprits would be punished to leave the court room.

The prosecution demands death penalty for Kanavalau and Kavalyou

Deputy general public prosecutor Alyaksej Stuk addressed to the court with such a request.

According to him, the prosecution took this decision upon consideration of the victims' relatives' opinions. He also referred to the fact that the accused had committed especially severe crimes.

Dzmitry Kanavalau is accused of the terrorist attack and of making explosives, Uladzislau Kavalyou - in assistance to the criminal and failure to report the crime.

Prosecutor: Kanavalau denied Vitsebsk episodes because he was ashamed before his friends

State prosecutor Alyaksej Stuk made such a guess during court disputes.

According to BELTA, Kanavalau claimed to the investigation that he has committed blasts in September 2005. However, later he denied that. In court, he denied earlier Vitsebsk episodes as well. 

The prosecutor suggested adopting more critical attitude to these denials. According to Stuk, Kanavalau cares about the environment in which he was born and grew up. His friends would change their attitude to him if they found out that he had committed those blasts.

Prosecutor tells about Moscow metro blasts at Kanavalau-Kavalyou trial

The court disputes started today. Prosecutor Stuk is the one to speak up first.

According to nn.by, he started with the pre-history of terrorism, when it first appeared in the lives of Belarusians. He told about the blasts in Moscow and London metro. His speech reminded a lecture on the history of criminality.

According to him, the investigation found the person who had committed all blasts in Vitsebsk and Minsk - this was Dzmitry Kanavalau. Stuk claimed that Kanavalau and Kavalyou started making blasts at the age of 14 (in 2000), Kavalyou helped his friend.

Stuk added that there had been no proofs of pressure against Kavalyou during the preliminary investigation, which means nothing could have forced him to give false evidence. According to the prosecutor, Kanavalau's guilt in all the crimes in which he was accused was proved. Kavalyou's guilt was also proved by the materials of the case.

Court disputes to start on Monday.

Metro blast trial to be resumed on November 14

The court has given time to prepare for the debate.

The judge read out the case papers according to which soldat Zholudzeu sold TNT to his acquaintances in 2003 or 2004. The TNT was bought by Uladzislau Kavalyou later. Zholudzeu refuted that he knew Kavalyou and Kanavalu during the interrogation, informs BelTA.

October 28

Experts: July 3, 2008 bomb was not made in Vitsebsk

The conclusions of Russian experts who studied the bomb found in Minsk in 2008 have been made public today.

Two explosions were supposed to occur on July 3 (Independence Day) but the second bomb was not activated. Russian experts think that the blasting assembly was not made in Vitsebsk. The specialists revealed traces of plants that cannot be found in the region on the bomb. The bomb could be produced in the western part of Bryansk Oblast, Kaliningrad Oblast, in south-east Belarus or north-west Ukraine. It could also be made in north-east Poland, Latvia or Lithuania.

The bomb could be prepared for activation in the city. For example, near the Botanical Gardens. Experts think that the components were produced in May or June, informs BelaPAN.

Terrorist act victim Saakyan accuses court of law violation

Uladzislau Kavalyou and Dzmitry Kanavalau were detained in Karol Street in Minsk. Samvel Saakyan thinks that is necessary to summon the policemen to court to revel the real details of the detention on April 12, informs “Interfax”.
The court refused to satisfy the appeal and the victim asked to register the fact of  a law violation in the minutes. The refusal was made without any explanation of the reason.

The court did not satisfy Stanislau Abrazei’s appeal either (Kavalyou’s lawyer) – he asked to interrogate four workers who had conducted repair works at “October” and “Kupala” stations not long before the explosion.

October 26

The principal’s relatives – father, mother and sister – have attended the hearing today. They used the right not to witness against their son and refused to give evidence. Moreover, according to Euroradio journalist Vital Ruhain, Kanavalau’s relatives did not even stay in the court room. They left immediately. They were met by strangers, got in a car with tinted windows and were driven away in an unknown direction.

 Besides Dzmitry Kanavalau’s relatives, his classmates gave evidence in court today. They confirmed that Kanavalau has been interested in chemistry.

The interrogation of witnesses will continue today.

Kavalyou and Kanavalau’s trial will be resumed at Minsk Law Courts at 11 a.m. today. The interrogation of witnesses is expected to continue.

October 25 

Uladzislau Kavalyou asks to soften the restraint again

In particular, Kavalyou claimed that no proofs of his guilt had been provided. In connection with that, he asks to release him on recognizance. He also considers another accused, Dzmitry Kanavalau, not guilty in the terrorist act, informs BELTA. 

The court declined the appeal referring to the severity of crime of which Kavalyou is accused. Alongside with that, Kavalyou's lawyer  filed another appeal - he asks to make an enquiry to the metro with regard to the testimony of one of the casualties. This person saw some workers doing maintenance work near the escalator the day before the terrorist act - April 10. However, he did not clarify whether it was at the "Kastrychnitskaya" or "Kupalauskaya" station. 

The court promised to consider the appeal within three days.

Witnesses who failed to appear in court before are supposed to give evidence today. It has been decided to deliver them forcibly to the House of Justice.

The previous trial took place on Friday, October 21. There was such a long break because one of the accused, Uladzislau Kavalyou, needed to study two more volumes, attached to the case. They concern Dzmitry Kanavalau. The latter is accused of bringing the bomb to the "Kastrychnitskaya" metro station and starting the explosive device on April 11.

October 19 

The court is considering the materials of "Vitsebsk episodes" of the case, including organization of the blast in the kiosk. According to the materials, the policemen who arrived upon the call allegedly found a fiery bottle. However, it was a fake and there was no explosive liquid in the bottle. Therefore, no criminal case was started then, and no one was accused of the blast in the kiosk, reports Euroradio's correspondent Vital Ruhain.

Uladzislau Kavalyou's lawyer filed two requests on the 11th day of Minsk metro blast trial.

In the first request, the lawyer asks to check the sim-card of the Russian mobile operator, found among the things of the accused during the search. He considers it necessary to make an enquiry to Russia and to check the incoming phone calls. However, the court declined this request.

Another request of the lawyer was also declined. He asked to release Uladzislau Kavalyou on recognizance. The defense thinks that the episodes which are not connected with Uladzislau Kavalyou are considered by the court at the moment. Moreover, there are too few proofs of his copartnership in the Aprill 11 terrorist attack. However, the court declined this request.

The trial against Dzmitry Kanavalau and Uladzislau Kavalyou who are accused of organization of a series of blasts and the terrorist attack in Minsk metro will be resumed today in the House of Justice in Minsk. The lawyers of defense are supposed to speak up today.

Let us remind you, Dzmitry Kanavalau is accused of preparation and conducting of the terrorist attack on April 11, 2011. Kanavalau admitted guilt. He faces death penalty. Uladzislau Kavalyou is accused of copartnership in preparation of the terrorist attack and failure to report about Kanavalau. Kavalyou does not admit guilt and takes an active part in the trial.

October 14

Kanavalau and Kavalyou’s lawyers to make speeches on October 19

According to BelaPAN, some case papers will be read out by the defendants’ lawyers on October 19. Dzmitry Lepretar and Stanislau Abrazei told Alyaksandr Fedartsou, the judge, about the necessity to get ready. Judging by his reaction, he was dissatisfied with the fact that the defense was not ready to present the materials on October 14.

A number of victims of the blast that occurred in Minsk on July 4, 2008 will also be interrogated on October 19.

The expertise results are being announced at Kanavalau and Kavalyou’s hearing.

Experts have examined so-called Kanavalau’s “testing area” and “laboratory” in Vitsebsk.
Prosecutor Dzmitry Tsimafeyeu has read out the results of the expertise today, on October 14, informs BelTA. According to experts, the items confiscated from the place where Kanavalau performed test explosions and from his lab are of common origin.

Experts have studied fragments of pipes found in the testing area and nearby. Moreover, foil pieces found in “the testing area” are of the same origin as the foil found in the laboratory.


October 13

A previous sentence has been cancelled during the investigation of the terrorist act case.
The arson of the “Belsayuzdruk” kiosk in Vitsebsk is meant here.

The case papers read out on October 13 say that two people were convicted for the arson of the kiosk in Kanavalau’s district in 2004. However, the received information has helped acquit the mentioned people, informs BelTA.
 

The sentence for the arson has been cancelled and the case has been sent to the Office of the Public Prosecutor to conduct a new investigation.

October 12

Prosecutor Alyaksei Stuk has asked Uladzislau Kavalyou about contradictions in his evidence today.

Thus, Kavalyou said different things about Kanavalau’s fingerprinting during the same interrogation. At first he said that Dzmitry had mentioned fingerprinting on April 10 and then – on the phone on April 9. Kavalyou says that he confused the dates.
Kavalyou also described an element of the blasting assembly at the beginning of the investigation. Now he claims that he did not know anything about the bomb. According to him, he was shown pictures of the bomb during the investigation, informs BelTA.

There are other discrepancies too. Kavalyou said that he buried TNT due to the search at Kanavalaus’ after the explosion of 2005. However, later he said that he had hidden the TNT and elements of the blasting assembly in 2006 because “he had grown up”.

Kavalyou has refuted some other evidence given during the interrogation. He explains it by the fact that he was “scared” and “talked nonsense”. Kavalyou has also claimed that he fabricated a lot of evidence.

The video contains a check of Kavalyou’s evidence.

BelTA informs that, according to the recording, almost all Vitsebsk spots mentioned in Dzmitry Kanavalau and Uladzislau Kavalyou’s case are situated close to one another.  Kavalyou and Kanavalau grew up there.

Kavalyou described in detail how the blast near a children’s library in Vitsebsk was performed. Investigators and the accused visited the bus stop where Kanavalau (according to Kavalyou’s evidence) tried to set a “Belsayzdruk” kiosk on fire. They also visited the lobby where Kavalyou and Kanavalau activated a blasting assembly.

Uladzislau showed other places connected with the early episodes of the case. Kavalyou did not take part in all of them. He got to know about the numerous incidents from Kanavalau later.

October 10

The hearing of Kanavalau and Kavalyou’s case will be resumed at Minsk Law Courts on Monday.
The evidence given by Vitsebsk witnesses was read out last Friday. They described the incidents that had happed at the beginning of the 2000s. The explosions were revealed after Dzmitry Kanavalau and Uladzislau Kavalyou’s arrest.

October 6

Uladzislau Kavalyou refuses from previous evidence

He says that investigators made him slander Dzmitry Kanavalau.

Uladzislau Kavalyou is being interrogated now. He has confirmed that they organized two explosions Vitsebsk in 2000-2002 together with Kanavalau. One of them was organized in a block of flats and the other – in Vitsebsk library. Kavalyou says that only window panes were broken because of them.

The judge has asked Kavalyou to describe the gas mixture that cause burns in a man. The confession about is can be found in Kavalyou’s interrogation report. However, Uladzislau claimed that he had never heard about it before and that the investigator had told him about it in KGB prison. According to Kavalyou, he exercised physiological pressure on the guy so that he would confess that he had got to know about it from Kanavalau. The same can be said about the story about a burn “Belsayuzdruk” kiosk in Vitsebsk and a car burnt down in a Vitsebsk yard.

The heraing will be resuemd at 11 a.m. The case papers will continue being read out today. Let us remind you that investigators have sent 550 volumes of case papers to court.

October 5 

Metro blast victim' father has claimed that the damage from the blast made 500 thousand euros.

The man has given such estimation at today's trial on the metro blast case. 

October 4

The metro blast victim wanted a compensation of 160 million roubles.
This sum of compensation for moral and material damages was mentioned by Mr.Chepikau during the preliminary investigation.

The transcript of his interrogation was read out in court on October 4, informs BelaPAN. Chepikau was in the carriage at the moment of the explosion. His ear-drums were damaged in the blast. Experts qualified his injuries as “light bodily injuries and health disorder. 
This is the biggest sum of compensation claimed by a victim. The sums of 3, 3.5 and 5 million roubles were mentioned on Tuesday. However, those were material damage compensations.
At the same time, many victims mentioned psychological traumas. In particular, they are afraid to enter the metro now.

The evidence of 80 metro blast victims has been heard in court.

 It was read out by prosecuting official  Alyaksandr Mironchyk. He also read out the expertise of their injuries.
 
The victims noted that many of them were not injured by the explosion as much as they were injured by the falling ceiling and wall constructions as well as the ceiling above the escalator. Many of the victims complained about a black-out, informs BelaPAN.
One of the victims said that she had noticed metallic objects flying above her head and had  had to bend. Another woman saw a piece of wall being torn out. Many victims complained about a black-out.

Experts registered “light bodily injuries and health disorder” in the majority of victims. About half of them asked for medical assistance a day after or a few days after the explosion.
The amount of damage mentioned by victims totals from a few thousand to several million roubles. They depended on the spoilt clothes and the fact whether anything had been lost at the station.

Metro blast victim mentions marauders

According to him, the police detained a marauder with his purse and documents.


According to BelTA, the victim has said that his clothes burnt down in the explosion and he lost his purse, etc. The purse and documents were found on a marauder detained by the police. He has not specified when the incident occurred.

The hearing of Kavalyou and Kanavalau’s case will be resumed at the Law Courts today. The prosecution is expected to continue reading out the victims’ evidence. The majority of them are not taking part in the hearing. They wrote appeals and asked to read their evidence out in their absence earlier.
According to lawyers, the metro blast trial will continue for many weeks. There are 550 volumes of case papers. Several hundred people are considered to be victims.

October 3 

Video showing inspection of carriages has been demonstrated at the metro blast case trial.

Casualties were not allowed to see the carriages in person.

Several video-records showing the inspection of the train, near which the blast took place, were demonstrated in court on Monday. 

According to BELTA, it is seen in the pictures that there is no glass in the windows of the front carriages. Especially, this concerns the second carriage of the train. This carriage was considered material evidence. Inside the carriage, there are papers, books, headgear, mobile phones, metal balls, elements of interior panelling etc. 

Some casualties requested permit to see the carriages themselves. The court declined their requests because there might be a threat to their mental state.

September 29 

Federal Security Service: The explosive device in Minsk metro worked with a remote

The state public prosecutor Alyaksandr Mironchyk announced this conclusion of the experts of the Russian Federal Security Service in court today.

According to BELTA, the main accused Dzmitry Kanavalau mentioned the remote in his testimony given at the preliminary investigation. He explained that he used a wireless alarm, in which he deleted a speaker. 

The experts confirmed that the explosive device was activated by a wireless remote. The bomb itself, according to the experts, was a self-made explosive device of an electric type, explosive content made about 12,5 kilos. 

Apart from that, it is stated in the experts' report that people can get barotraumas, including fatal ones, at the distance of 35 meters from the center of the blast at the open territory.

September 28 

Lawyers want to know who visited Kanavalau and Kavalyou in the KGB detention center

Kavalyou's lawyer Stanislau Abrazej appealed to the court with such request.

According to BelaPAN, the lawyer wants to see the journal of visits during the stay of the accused in the KGB detention center and in the Navinki mental hospital.

Judge Alyaksandr Fedartsou said that the court had three days for consideration of this request.

It is worth mentioning that Kavalyou claimed at the trial before that he had been interrogated without a lawyer and a protocol.

September 27

A Vitsebsk inhabitant who worked as a taxi-dirver in April spoke in court as a witness today.

He says that he drove Kanavalau to the Vitsebsk railway station on his first working day in the company. The driver helped the passenger to put his bag into the trunk and to take it out. According to him, the bag was about 20-25 kilos of weight. Kanavalau did not talk to the driver on the way, BELTA reports.

Today is the 9th day of trial on the metro blast case. 

September 26

Trial on metro blast case may finish in November.

Consideration of the metro blast case is planned to be completed within two months since the day the hearings started. 

Chairman of the Supreme Court Valiantsin Sukala has said this, BELTA informs. According to him, court trials of the kind are planned with regard to time limits, schedules are composed every day, every week. If nothing extraordinary happens, the court should complete consideration of this case within two months, Sukala says.

Let us remind you, the trial against Dzmitry Kanavalau and Uladzislau Kavalyou started on September 15. The main accused - Kanavalau - is charged with regard to more than 30 episodes, Kavalyou - to 15 episodes.

Federal Security Service of Russia confirms that the man filmed by the cameras in the metro is Kanavalau.

Experts of the Federal Security Service of Russia helped during the preliminary investigation of the metro blast case. 

In their opinion, the man filmed by the cameras located in Minsk metro is Dzmitry Kanavalau. This became known on September 26 during disclamation of documents from the case's materials, reportsНа іх думку, BELTA.

We are speaking about the comparative analysis of the video records made by the observation cameras on April 10 and 11 at the stations "Frunzenskaya", "Kupalauskaya" and "Kastrychnitskaya".

The investigators asked Kanavalau to change in the clothes and footwear which had been confiscated from him after the arrest. They brought him to the "Frunzenskaya" station and asked to stop at the same places and in the same poses. These pictures and video records were compared with the ones made on April 10 and 11. The Russian experts came to the conclusion that the cameras had filmed Kanavalau just before the metro blast.

September 22.

The trial on the April 11 metro blast case is continued in the House of Justice in Minsk. The main accused Dzmitry Kanavalau refuses to give evidence, therefore the investigation's protocols are read out in the court hall.

The investigators showed Kanavalau different shots from the observation cameras, and he recognized himself. Kavalyou was also at some of them. The last shots are dated April 10. It is recorded that Kanavalau and Kavalyou were going from the railway station by metro and had a bag with explosives with them, reports BELTA.

Also, Kanavalau's way to the place of the blast on April 11 with the same bag is recorded in the video. He recognized himself in the shots of the observation cameras, installed outside near the entrances to the metro stations "Kupalauskaya" and "Kastrychnitskaya". These shots were taken on April 11 after the blast. Kanavalau explained that he walked out of metro and went to the rented flat by feet.

September 21

Kanavalau claims tortures at interrogations.

He denied that he had any connection with the blasts in Vitsebsk in 2005. He told the investigator that he had confessed in those crimes under the pressure of the policemen after his arrest on April 12. When the investigator asked what kind of perssure it was, Kanavalau answered that they had used violence, reports BelaPAN.

He told that two policemen put him flat on his stomach and stretched his handcuffed arms under the legs which were crossed behind. According to Kanavalau, they ordered him to give evidence about the blasts in Minsk in 2008 and 2011, and in Vitsebsk in 2005.

Alongside with that, Kanavalau stated at that very interrogation that he admitted his connection with the blasts in Minsk in 2008 and 2011.

September 20 

Kanavalau has made about 15 kilos of different explosives since 2007.

Such conclusion can be made after consideration of the materials of his interrogation on June 15.

The protocol of the interrogation has been read out in court on September 20, BelaPAN informs.

Kanavalau explained that he had made at least one kilo of triacetone triperoxide, moreover, he had made it for more than 10 times. He also made about 14 kilos of amotropin. These explosive substances were used in the blasts in Minsk in 2008 and 2011. In particular, about 10 kilos of amotropin and triacetone triperoxide were used to conduct a blast in the metro on April 11.

Kanavalau said that he had also made about 20 gramms of the substance СDМА in the beginning of 2010. He did not use it, he planned to explode it as an experiment near Vitsebsk, in proximity of the station Hryshany.

Kanavalau claimed responsibility for blasts in 2011 and 2008 in Minsk during investigation.
Dzmitry Kanavalau confessed at the interrogation on April 13 that he had conducted the blasts in Minsk metro on April 11, 2011 and at night on July 4, 2008. 
He also confessed that he had conducted the blasts in Vitsebsk in September 2005. A video record of this interrogation is shown in court at the moment, reports BELTA.

Kanavalau tried to commit suicide in 2008
Uladzislau Kavalyou claimed this in court on September 20. 
Kanavalau called Kavalyou in winter 2008 and said he had cut his veins. According to the information provided by BelaPAN, Kavalyou came to his friend and saw his wrist had been bandaged. kanavalau did not explain the motives of his actions. Kavalyou supposed that his friend was in depression. 
Kavalyou also informed that after the terrorist attack in Minsk metro Kanavalau wanted to commit suicide and even showed the yellow tablets with poison. Kavalyou doesn't know how serious his intentions were.

September 19

Kanavalau planned the blast right after the army?

Uladzislau Kavalyou claimed this during the preliminary investigation. The public prosecutor read out the protocol of that interrogation at the trial.

According to BELTA, Kavalyou confessed at the interrogation that he knew about Dzmitry Kanavalau's plans with regard to the metro blast before April 2011. Allegedly, Kanavalau intended to make a blast in the carriage first, not at the station. He even stole certain objects in the military unit where he served. According to Kavalyou, Kanavalau probably failed to use those objects.

New details of the explosive device used in the metro were revealed at the interrogation. Kavalyou claimed there was a "black alarm" in the bomb. Alongside with that, the explosive device differed from Kanavalau's previous devices. Another substance was used in it, Kavalyou claimed at the interrogation. 

Accused of terrorist attack Kavalyou wanted to earn a million dollars
He has informed this today, answering the judge's questions.
According to BELTA, Uladzislau Kavalyou set the term of 5-10 years to fullfill this goal. He planned to launch his own business, studied the stock market. Kavalyou has informed that he studied the works of different psychologists which allowed him to train some psychological stability.
Alongside with that, he continues to deny a part of his testimony, referring to the pressure from the investigation's side.

A video recording of Uladzislau Kavalyou's interrogation is being demonstrated in court at the moment.

He has informed that Dzmitry Kanavalau conducted the terrorist act in the metro on April 11, knowing that he will be imprisoned in any case.

According to the information provided by BELTA, Kavalyou has also confessed at the interrogation that Kanavalau showed him the contents of his bag on April 10. There were allegedly two big plastic bottles for 5 liters each with explosives. Apart from that, Kavalyou has told in the video record that Kanavalau confessed that he committed the crime soon after the blast at night on July 3-4, 2008.

A break has been announced till September 19.

Kavalyou's mother Lyubou read out an appeal to the authorities, urging to conduct referendum on abolishment of death penalty. She is afraid that death penalty might be used against her son.

Kavalyou thinks that Kanavalau did not conduct blast in Minsk metro.

Uladzislau Kavalyou has said this in the court. 

In his opinion, Dzmitry Kanavalau did not conduct any blasts - not in 2005, not in 2011, interfax.by reports.   Kavalyou has said that he confessed in failure to report about the blast during the investigation because he heard Kanavalau screaming from behind the wall. The investigators allegedly told Kavalyou that they would sentence him to two years of imprisonment for failure to report, and would not accuse him of terrorism. Kavalyou says that he gave testimony because he was frightened by the possible execution. Alongside with that, he has confirmed that no violence was used against him.   Kavalyou has also told that Dzmitry Kanavalau was very cheerful after the blast in metro, he joked and laughed a lot.

Uladzislau Kavalyou claimed that investigators had put pressure on him.

The accused in the Minsk metro terrorist attack case refused from his testimony given during the preliminary investigation. 

Kavalyou told that he knew Kanavalau since the first form in school, and never noticed any "criminal" inclinations in him. According to the information provided by interfax.by, Kavalyou stressed the attention on the fact that they had different companies and different circles of contacts. He claimed that he had not contacted Kanavalau recently, and then moved to Minsk. He even declined the invitation to go for a beer in Vitsebsk on January 1, when he visited his parents.

Kavalyou also stated that he had no contacts with Dzmitry Kanavalau till April 9, 2011. According to him, Kanavalau called him on that day and said he would like to come to Minsk the next day.

Blast case figurant re-qualified as a witness
A person named in the metro blast case Rumyantsau speaks in the court as a witness.
According to the information provided by BELTA, the judge claimed this at the trial on September 16. However, Rumyantsau is mentioned in the text of the accusation as a copartner in the early Vitsebsk episodes, in particular, in the blast in the entrance. The public prosecutor informed that the case against Rumyantsau had been terminated due to time limitation. 
A representative of casualty Inessa Krutaya asked, in his turn, why Kanavalau and Kavalyou were accused of those episodes when the identical accusations against other people were withdrawn. The judge replied that this was justified by certain peculiarities of the criminal law theory, and gave no further details.

Dzmitry Kanavalau also confessed that he had conducted the blast in Minsk at night on July 3-4, 2008. 
Apart from that, he confessed in illegal use of explosives. He declined all the other accusations, Euroradio's correspondent Vital Ruhain informs from the court hall.

Uladzislau Kavalyou confessed in the blasts from 2000 till 2002. He did not confess in Vitsebsk blasts of 2005, refused from his testimony given during the preliminary investigation, and denied concealment of the tire jack. Also, he admitted guilt in failure to report about the 2008 blast. However, Kavalyou denied that he had bought trotyl and passed it to Kanavalau. He also failed to confirm the testimony on the metro blast, given before. 

A break has been announced in the trial till September 16.

Dzmitry Kanavalau's accusation has been read out for two hours. It took half of the first trial day. 

Uladzislau Kavalyou's accusation will be read out after the dinner break, Euroradio's correspondent Vital Ruhain reports from the court hall. Thus, it is not likely that there will be any  interrogations today, either of the accused or the witnesses.

Only half of the hall counted for 500 people was occupied. There are 121 casualties among the present. More than 400 casualties could not present at the trial. According to Euroradio's correspondent, the audience's attitude to the accused is rather restrained. Only when one of them was convoyed to the court, some man shouted at him to keep his head down.

Let us remind you, the casualties filed a series of requests. Among them there were complaints that there was not enough time to study the case's materials. One of the casualties claimed he had only 3 days for that.

According to BELTA, the court satisfied requests of more than 300 casualties so that the trial should be continued in their absense. Also, a woman who rented a flat to accused Kanavalau before the blast in metro was summoned to the court.

One of the accused asked for a meeting with his lawyer without witnesses. The judge supported the accusation and declined this request. The Chair of the court noted that a document which allowed the accused to contact with his lawyer with no limitations had been issued before the trial.

According to the information provided by Radio Liberty, the cage for the accused is divided into two parts by a glass screen. Thus, Kanavalau and Kavalyou cannot contact each other during the trial.

There are many representatives of Belarusian and foreign media in a big court hall (approximately for 500 people) where the trial is taking place. Two accused - Dzmitry Kanavalau and Uladzislau Kavalyou - are in the metal cage, installed at the stage, on the left. Extra-ordinary security measures have been implemented today - there is a very serious guarding. The present have been prohibited to use mobile phones, Internet does not work. One of the casualties asked to prohibit photo and video-filming, the court satisfied his request.

Let us remind you, two natives of Vitsebsk - Zmitser Kanavalau and Uladzislau Kavalyou - are accused of the crime. Kanavalau is accused of terrorism, illegal use of arms and explosives, malicious hooliganism. Kavalyou is accused of implication in terrorism, failure to report and concealment of a crime.

According to the representatives of the public prosecution, the youngsters committed their first crime back in 2000.
