Anarchists Dziadok, Alinevich, Frantskevich - political prisoners
Human rights defenders from "Viasna" and the Belarusian Helsinki Committee recognized them as political prisoners.
The human rights defenders came to such conclusion after the analysis of the so-called "anarchists' case". They claimed that the preliminary investigation of the criminal case was accompanied by serious procedural violations, including violation of the prisoners' rights. Human rights defender Nasta Lojka has told Euroradio that the political motivation of the case was seen from the start:
Lojka: "The case was started last September, when the authorities started mass detentions of the activists of the anarchist movement. It was clear that this was not an accidental interest, it was obviously connected with their views. Further development of the events proved that there were a lot of unverified facts in the case, the investigation itself was rather weird and the main proofs were testimonies of people who had been intimidated".
Lojka says that it was difficult to recognize the anarchists as political prisoners on the spot. However, after the analysis of the case's materials, the sentence, the protocols of trials, human rights defenders had no more doubts.
Let us remind you, five people were mentioned in the case, and only three of them were recognized as political prisoners. Lojka explains that Maxim Vetkin and Yauhen Silivonchyk cooperated with the investigation and told lies about the others:
Lojka: "At first, these three people are serving punishment, they have been sentenced to rather long terms of imprisonment - 3-8 years. Two others got limitation of freedom. They acted weirdly in court - they told lies about the other accused in some moments. We will decide separately on whether to provide them such status. They took the decision to cooperate with the investigation and received milder sentences for this. And the people who did not admit guilt in the majority of the episodes of which they had been accused are in prison, with no grounds, as we think, and they are these three persons".
