Angelica Orechwo: They try to frighten people with big fines
Nevertheless, members of the Union of Poles will continue their struggle against Russification of the Polish school.
The court of Hrodna sentences participants
of the picket in defense of the Polish school to big fines. It is already known
that editor of the newspaper "Glos znad Niemna" Grazyna Szalkiewicz
was fined for 5 million roubles, and pensioner Stanislava Tsyvunchyk - for 2
million roubles. In the opinion of Chairperson of the Union of Poles Angelica Orechwo,
this is the way the authorities are trying to frighten the Polish activists.
Angelica Orechwo: "They want to frighten the
people. From the very start, they dispersed this picket so brutally and the
police behaved in the way to make adult people fear. And now these punishments
- they probably want us not to participate in that".
According
to Orechwo, the people who stood trials were helped with the lawyers and would
be helped with paying the fines after the sentences. Despite such attitude of
the authorities to their protest, the activists are going to continue their
campaign in defense of the Polish school. They do not trust the officials'
words that no one is going to conduct Russification
in the school and they only wanted to rent two classrooms for the neighbouring
school there.
Let us remind you, on June 1 there was a
picket in defense of the Polish school, the police detained about 20 people.
One of them, Ihar Bantsar, got 13 days of detention.
