The politician celebrates his 56th birthday in prison.
Mikalaj Statkevich was a presidential candidate at the election-2010. He was arrested on December 19, 2010 after the action of protest against falsification of the election's results. He was accvused of organization of mass riots and participation thereof. On May 26, 2011 he was sentenced to 6 years of imprisonment in a reinforced-security colony.
The human rights organization Amnesty International considered him a prisoner of conscience. In the colony, Mikalaj Statkevich was considered a violent rule-breaker and sent to the closed prison in Mahileu. In Summer, Statkevich's term of imprisonment in the closed correctional institution was prolonged.
