Belarus not to get money from EU without democracy
The European Union’s assistance to the neighbouring countries will depend on democratic reforms.
The principles have been mentioned in the updated European Neighbourhood Policy. European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Štefan Füle has announced it.
“Cherter-97” refers to him and informs that the EU has decided to increase the assistance rendered to its neighbouring states, however, it will depend on the fact whether certain terms are fulfilled. The European Union has mentioned various criteria. The most important of them are free and fair elections, the freedom of assembly and expression, especially the freedom of the press and mass media; independent judicial power and the right for a fair trial, struggle with corruption and democratic control over the armed forces and security agencies.
According to Füle, the scope of assistance will depend on these criteria.
