British leading HR organizations discuss situation in Belarus
"Belarusian Committee" held a meeting at Free Word Centre in London.
The committee includes human rights organizations Index on Censorship and Amnesty International, a law firm "H20 Law LLP", the Belarusian Free Theatre, the English PEN-center, organization on defense of journalists' rights "Article XIX", a playwrite Tom Stoppard and Iryna Bahdanava as a representatives of the detainees' families.
The participants of the meeting discussed effective ways of pressure on the Belarusian regime; public events, aimed at turing the attention of the British society and European community and political elite towards Belarusian problems; legal mechanisms of starting court trials over the crimes committed by Aliaksandr Lukashenka's regime.
The "Belarusian Committee" held this session on the birthday of one of the KGB prisoners - a presidential candidate Andrej Sannikau. His sister Iryna Bahdanava asked everyone to puff out candles on the cake making one and the same wish - to release all political prisoners from the Belarusian prisons, Charter-97 informs.
