Catherine Ashton urges Belarus to stop persecution fo journalists
The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy condemns the Belarusian authorities for having arrested journalist
Andrzej Pachobut.
It is said in Ashton’s statement distributed by her press service on April 10. The head of European diplomats thinks that the repressions aimed at the Hrodna journalist “are an example of the human rights violation by the Belarusian authorities that have been continuing since Dec.19, 2010”.
“The EU condemns all the persecution, arrests and intimidation of representatives of independent Belarusian mass media and the violation of basic human rights like the freedom of expression, assembly and mass media”, - quotes BelaPAN.
Let us remind you that Andrzei Pachobit, reporter of Polish “Gazeta Wyborcza”, is accused of libel and insult of the Belarusian President. The journalist is in jail.
