Council of EU to discuss new Belarus cooperation programme on March 23

Maya Kocijancic, spokesperson of High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton, has informed BelaPAN about it. The new programme is aimed at brisking up the cooperation with the Belarusian civil society.

Kocijancic has noted that the European Union is hoping to see Belarus shift to the side of democracy, supremacy of law and respect for human rights. In this case, the EU may help the country conduct economic reforms and attract investments, she stressed.

According to BelaPAN, if the Council of the EU approves the new programme, it will be officially presented in Brussels on March 29. However, Kocijancic has not confirmed the information.
