EP to discuss Belarusian parliamentary election
A resolution is expected to be adopted after the discussion.
According to the website of the European Parliament, the election in our country did not correspond to the OSCE standards. A number of projects stress that the recent election campaign was "another missed opportunity to normalize relations with the European Union".
MEPs welcome the recent release of a few Belarusian political prisoners but are also urging to release all the other political prisoners including Ales Byalyatski, Mikalai Statkevich and Zmitser Dashkevich, BelaPAN reports.
The European Parliament will also announce the winner of the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought today. Convicted Belarusian human rights defender Ales Byalyatski is on the short list.
