EUobserver: EU ambassadors may return to Minsk after Easter
The EU ambassadors' return is possible if Alyaksandr Lukashenka takes no radical steps.
BelaPAN has informed about such variant of
development of the situation with a reference to the web-site EUobserver. The
internet-resource, in its turn, referred to one of the EU ambassadors in
Belarus. According to the words of the anonymous diplomat, it is possible that
the EU ambassadors will return to Minsk after April 8.
However, if, for
instance, Siarhei Kavalenka, who is on a hunger strike in prison now, dies, the
European diplomats will not go to Minsk. EUobserver's vis-a-vis told that their
potential return should not be considered a political gift: "We are ready
to impose new sanctions if the situation doesn't get better".
Another European
diplomat said the following: "If the ambassadors are in Belarus, it will
give us an opportunity to work more effectively there and to get reports of
higher quality".
