Hrodna celebration – street full of people
Hrodna inhabitants did not go to the concert but walked from Soviet to Lenin Square instead.
Let us remind you that a fair of Belarusian producers and a concert were organized in Soviet Square on that day. The whole territory had been encircled with turnstiles since morning. A police bus was parked nearby. Metallic barriers were also installed in Lenin Square.
About 300 people gathered in the pavement between Lenin Square and Street at 7 p.m. People of various ages wearing red and green caps arrived from behind the turnstiles at that moment. They joined the crowd. The first applause began half an hour later. People behind the turnstiles supported the applause and whistles. One of the groups in red and green caps started waving their caps.
The inhabitants of Hrodna headed for Lenin Square along Soviet Street a few minutes later. They kept applauding and whistling. The manifestation was very eye-catching: you could not see the tail-end of the column.
The demonstrators dispersed at the crossroads of Soviet and Socialist Streets.
