Mahileu inhabitant Yury Novikau fined for 4 million roubles
The Lenin district court of Mahileu made such sentence to the regional coordinator of the campaign "For Fair Election-2012".
The activist stood trial for dissemination of materials aimed at preparation of the observers. Judge Aksana Ratnikava considered that the brochures, copybooks for observers and informational materials transported by Novikau in his car were mass media and should have been covered by the law "On Media".
Novikau disagrees with the court decision and is going to claim it in the higher court instance.
Let us remind you, traffic policemen stopped the activist's car on August 23. They suggested that he should come to the district police department for clarification of the situation. They found literature dedicated to the elections observation in the trunk, and confiscated it.
