Olympics-2012 is worst for Belarus as regards medals
Our sportsmen have won three gold, five silver and five bronze medals at the London Olympics.
Belarus has fulfilled only half of the Olympic medal plan. Instead of 25 medals ordered by Alyaksandr Lukashenka, our national Olympic team will bring only 13 medals home.
This is the worst result of the Summer Olympics since 1996 - the year Belarus started taking part in the Olympic Games as an independent state. Thus, our country won 19 medals at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 (4 gold, 5 silver and 10 bronze medals), 15 - in Athens in 2004 (2, 6, 7), 17 - in Sidney in 2000 (3, 3, 11) and 15 - in Atlanta in 1996 (1, 6, 8).
Ihar Zaichkou, senior vice President of the NOC and the President's aide in the field of psychical education, sport and tourism, has claimed that the Belarusian athletes' performance was unsatisfactory and that they flopped in some kinds of sport. It is difficult to predict whether it is going to result in loud resignations of sports officials.
