Poland's MFA passes note of protest to Belarusian Ambassador
This is connected with detention of "Gazeta Wyborcza" journalist and activist of non-official Union of Poles in Belarus Andrzej Poczobut.
The Belarusian Ambassador Victar Haysyonak
was called to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland in the evening on June
22. They passed him a note of protest and demanded that the journalist should
be released immediately, BelaPAN reports. According to the Polish MFA's note,
"such actions deepen the self-isolation of the Belarusian authorities,
make the relations with the EU more complicated and cause another wave of criticism
from the side of the international public opinion, which may lead to expansion
of the current sanctions".
Andrzej Poczobut
was detained in the evening on June 21 at his house in Hrodna. His apartment
was searched and the journalist was delivered to the public prosecutor's office
after that. Then he was transported to the investigation prison. A criminal
case under Part 2 Article 367 of the Criminal Code (slander against the
President) has been started against him .
