Syarhei Kavalenka to be sent to mental hospital?
The political prisoner's wife Alena received a letter from the Interior Ministry's Department of Corrections on March 17.
According to this letter, Syarhei
Kavalenka was examined by a psychiatrist on March 14 and the doctor allegedly
diagnosed loss of adequate mental state. Therefore, the Department informs, he
will be transferred to a mental hospital for the necessary medical assistance.
They did not inform when it would happen.
Alena Kavalenka has
said in an interview to Radio Liberty that she considers this a continuation of
tortures against her husband. She talked to the lawyer who had met with Syarhei
Kavalenka in the Valadarski street detention center on March 16. According to
the lawyer, the political prisoner had a "clear mind" although he was
physically exhausted.
