"Viasna" is persecuted for legal human rights defending activity
This is the way the international organization Amnesty International estimates the pressure on human rights activists in Belarus.
As it is stated in the report called "Security, Peace and Order?": Violations in the wake of elections in Belarus", published by this influential organization, the Belarusian human rights center "Viasna" is purposefully persecuted by the authorities. Facts of searches, during which they confiscated office equipment and technial means, as well as warnings issued by the Ministry of Justice, are enlisted as examples thereof.
"Human rights groups throughout the country have been subjected to searches, confiscation of property and questioning by the KGB, on a scale that suggests that the intention has been to intimidate rather than conduct legitimate investigations”, — stated in the report.
