Zhdanovichy market fight: why? Versions of Gypsies and Azerbaijani
Euroradio has talked to auto-sellers working near the incident site, and to the influential representative of the Gypsy diaspora.
The mass fight at the market "Lyabyazhy", which is part of the market center "Zhdanovichi", caused a wave of debates and versions.
The police do not report the details of the incident.
We contacted auto-dealer Tengiz, Azerbaijan native, who sells automobiles at the auto-market next to "Lyabyazhy".
Tengiz: "Gypsies from Russia sell cell phones next to “Lyabyazhy” market . So, five youngsters, Gypsies, got there, and stole a client from other Gypsies who had sold cell phones at the place for a long time. The fight started. One Gypsy used a traumatic gun, which looked like "TT". Several people were wounded. He was also injured. Then all of them dispersed, and some were taken to the police station."
Belarusian Maxim sticks to approximately the same version. On Saturday, he arrived to the parking space near "Lyabyazhy" a few minutes before the shooting began.
Influential Minsk Gypsy Laurentsii Alexandrovich didn't know the details of the incident when we called him. However, he consulted his sources and provided us his own vision of the case:
Laurentsii Alexandrovich: "They are citizens of Russia, not our Minsk Gypsies. They have a business with the Caucasians. They buy cell phones from the Azerbaijani and then resell. It all happened because of the phones. They agreed to make the purchase for one sum, but it turned out that they were offered a completely different amount. So they had a conflict. A lot of people who had nothing to do with all this could have suffered if the police and the riot police had not interfered and settled it.”
According to the information provided by the law enforcement agencies, some participants of the incident were residents of the southern regions of Russia. The police arrested 43 people in total.
According to the preliminary information, a Gypsy used the traumatic gun. A criminal case under the article "malicious hooliganism" has been started against him.
