The Russian Embassy to Minsk: We have not received permission to meet Belunin so far
The Russian Embassy to Belarus has already sent two diplomatic notes to the Belarusian government asking to change the restrictive practice applied to a Russian citizen Vladimir Belunin detained in Minsk. However, Belarus does not even allow them to meet him. Let us remind you that a 21-yer-old Belunin, a student of one of Minsk universities, was detained on July 9 on suspicion of connection with the explosion that had taken place on July 4. The guy’s parents who arrived in Belarus from Karachay-Cherkessia say that he is seriously ill. The press representative of the Russian Embassy Vadim Gusev has informed ERB that all their attempts have been in vain so far:
"The Belarusian side delays a meeting of a representative of the Russian consulate with the detained for some unknown reason. The Embassy is worried about Belunin’s health condition and would like to change the restrictive practice to a written undertaking not to leave the country until the investigation is over”.
According to Gusev, the Russian Embassy “is surprised at the reluctance of the Belarusian side to cooperate and provide impartial information abut the detention of the Russian citizen”.
