Solidarity action in Minsk ends with detentions

Four activists with the portraits of Mikalai Autukhovich, Uladzimir Asipenka and Aleh Surhan stood on Tuesday evening for just several minutes before being forcefully pushed into a police bus and taken in the unknown direction. Several activists had been detained on approach to the square.

Old woman: "Four boys came out with portraits. I even wanted to come up and see the portraits. They were taken right away, dragged into a bus and driven away. That was it!"

She said they were not beaten but simply taken to a bus. But police brutality is not rare during such actions.

Old woman: "Last time it was terrible. The police were beating everyone heavily! On Valentine's Day a girl was dragged on the snow".

On Tuesday, it was for the first time when police officers in blue jackets bearing "Information Service" words responded to questions from journalists during the action.

Officer: "The aim of the police is to detain, prevent the crime that is taking place on October Square. We have managed to do it without using force. Everything is calm. The offence was prevented with no victims

The old woman disagreed with the officer.

It has already been four years when every month on the 16th day opposition activists stage actions on October Square in support of political prisoners and the families of the disappeared politicians.
