Team Belarus returns to Minsk from Sochi Olympics (video)
The Belarus government's plane with Olympians landed at the Minsk International Airport at 1745 local time.
The Belarus athletes were welcomed by Sports Minister Aliaksandr Shamko and presidential aide Maksim Ryzhankou. According to some media reports, KGB chairman Valery Vakulchyk was also present at the welcoming ceremony.
The ceremony took place right near the plane which got delayed for several hours, reports Belapan. A red carpet was rolled out for the Belarus Olympians who were greeted by the Guards of Honor and the military orchestra. Afterwards, the atheletes proceeded into a VIP lounge at the airport where several hundred people had gathered. Those included journalists, relatives of the athletes, officials, representatives of public associations, young sportsmen and sportsgirls and others.
In Sochi, it was the most successful Olympic Games in the whole history of Team Belarus that secured six medals: 5 golds and 1 bronze. Our team finished in the 8th place in the medal quality ranking and shared the 17th place together with Poland for the total medal count.
