Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu provides proofs he is not pro-Russian
A meeting with a presidential candidate Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu took place in the Trade Unions' Palace of Culture in Brest. The hall which admits about 650 people was full. There were many young people and even families with small children. Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu elegantly refrained from accusations of being pro-Russian:
"My father was Russian, unlike the parents of those people who are now in the authorities. He was sent to revive the Western Belarusian collective farms after the war from Kenigsberg. They sent the death notification to his family. This is how the party treated people. So when I started writing poems in Russian, he told me: son, you live in Belarus, so you should respect everything Belarusian: culture, language, people. Write in Belarusian in this country, although your father is Russian".
A Snowgirl and a Father Frost greeted the candidate with some local poet's poems in the end of the 2-hours meeting.
