Why does not Ukraine lift duties on Belarusian goods?
Ukraine waits for the Belarusian resolution that cancels licensing of Ukrainian imports to come into force but apparently it is in vain.
The government of Belarus has opened up access to Belarusian market for Ukrainian goods. On July 24, Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovich signed Resolution No 719, which lifts restrictions for the imports of Ukrainian products to Belarus. However, Ukraine has not moved to abolish import duties for goods from Belarus. Why?
Euroradio has tried to find the text of the resolution on the website of the National Lega Portal, but it not there! Euroradio is told by the portal's administration that if the resolution does exist, it will be downloaded within one week.
“You know, I cannot find this resolution. Perhaps, it is still being processed. Perhaps, it has not been signed. If it exists, it will appear on our website within one week,” Euroradio is told by the National Legal Portal.
In April, the Belarusian government inroduced licenses the imports of beer, pasta and confectionary products for all countries except the members of Customs Union. In respond, Ukraine introduced a special duty on Belarusian products - milk, beer, refrigerators.
The Embassy of Ukraine in Minsk explained to Euroradio that they had read the resolution but some additional questions still remained.
“The situation is the following. Ukraine introduced restrictions for Belarusian gods on July 16. They came into force ten days later on July 26. The resolution of Belarusian government became effective two days before the coming into force of Ukrainian measures It turns out that there is a document that will come into force after restrictions on Belarusian goods are lifted. But Ukraine waits for the Belarusian document to come into force first. But Ukraine is waitintg in vain, because the Belarusian document is only inviting Ukrainians to abolish duties. It is like an endless circle. We are trying to sort this situation out somehow.”
Euroradio will follow the developments.
