World Television Day marked on November 21
This day was established by the UN General Assembly in March 1988. States of the world were suggested to mark this day by exchanging TV-programs, dedicated to such topics as peace, security, economical and social development and expanding of cultural exchange.
Although the world started marking this holiday not long ago, the history of television started approximately 80 years ago. The first experiments with using electronic rays for distant transmitting and receipt of an image were conducted in early 20s of the XX century in the USA, Japan and the Soviet Union.
TV-broadcasting became mass in Europe only in 1950s of the XX century. As for the less developed areas, state TV-companies appeared even later there - in 60s-70s.
In Belarus, first trial TV-programs started on January 1, 1956 in Minsk. At present, 18 TV programs and 22 radio programs, including 14 commercial ones, are broadcasted in Belarus.
