Yanukevich: Freedom Day demonstration route will depend on people's number and mood
The opposition leaders today held a news conference on the traditional Freedom Day demonstrtation to take place on March 25. Journalists met with the leaders of the parties and organizations that are members of the Belarusian Pro-Independence Ploc (BNB). Popular Front party leader Alyaksei Yanukevich called on all the members of the public to come to the building of the Academy of Sciences in order to celebrate the Belarus independence anniversary. He said that poets and musicians would make theit performances to create a festive mood. Yanukevich also said the demonstration would not proceed to the remote Bangalore Square and the route would depend on the number and the mood of the people.
Alyaksei Yanukevich: “Currently, when many people are saying that the opposition is divided, the action on March 25 is a clear proof that there is no divide. All the parties and all famous democratic politicians have endorsed this initiative of the Belarusian Pro-Independence Bloc and have also called their supporters to come at 1800 on March 25 to the building of the Academy of Sciences”.
During the press conference, the Belarusian Christian Democracy launched the collection of signatures under the open appeal to the authorities. The authors demand that March 25 be recognized as a national holiday and September 8 as the Day of the Military Glory. Signatures will also be gathered during the March 25 Freedom Day traditional demonstration. For Freedom Movement leader Alexander Milinkevich noted that March 25 will be the major holiday in the independent Belarus.
