Zlotnikau: Only Belarus will suffer from any further oil conflicts
The problem of cancellation of oil duties is still relevant, at least for Belarus. The senior vice PM Uladzimir Syamahska has noted that Belarus will continue insisting on the abolishment of the duties.
However, an economist Leanid Zlotnikau has assured ERB that no positive results should be expected from such negotiations. The expert notes that Russia has been increasing the price of energy for other states and domestic consumers since 2006.
Leanid Zlotnikau: “Belarus will not achieve anything. Russia is very determined in the issue and it may be ready for a head-on collision – the cancellation of transit across Belarus. Only Belarus will lose in such a case: our country will not be able to endure it for more than one or two months”.
The government is appealing to the Customs Union. According to an international agreement, a single customs area will be introduced in Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan on July 1. According to the official Minsk, the existence of any duties will become absurd in the Customs Union.
