Pro-government journalist faces police inquiry over publication (document)

This is how the prosecutor's office reacted to the appeal of the educational organization "The Center of Legal Transformation". On August 23, human rights defenders filed an appeal with the prosecutor's office, demanding to give legal assessment of the story published by SB.Belarus Today journalist Ihar Dolin. The journalist published the letters, allegedly written by convicted opposition activist Andrei Haidukou, in two issues of the newspaper. The letters were the evidence in the criminal case that was heard in a Vitsebsk court behind closed doors. At the moment of publication, Haidukou's sentence had not come into force.

Now, the Internal Affairs Administration of Minsk's Sovietski District should check whether it was a breach of legal procedures to publish those materials, reports charter97.org.

Haidukou was sentenced to 1.5 years in prison for an attempt to establish contacts with a foreign intelligence.
