EU expects more Belarusian political prisoners to be released
EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton has welcomed Syarhei Kavalenka's release.
She urged Minsk to make further steps in this direction. At the same time she regrets that the political prisoner had to plea for mercy to be released. Ms. Ashton urged the Belarusian authorities to release all political prisoners and lift all the restrictions of their civil and political rights, Radio Liberty reports referring to Maya Kosiânčič, Catherin Ashton's press secretary.
Syarhei Kavalenka was released on September 26 after 280 days in prison.
